Terms of Service
Effective September 28, 2026
1. Who we are
Marifmax ("Marifmax," "we," "us") is operated by Hashim Qasim, a sole proprietor based in Quebec, Canada. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Marifmax website and progressive web app (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
2. What Marifmax is — and isn’t
Marifmax is a personal budgeting tool. It connects to your bank and credit card accounts through Plaid Inc. ("Plaid"), a third-party financial data service, on a read-only basis so you can see balances, transactions, budgets, and savings goals in one place.
- Marifmax is not a bank, is not a money services business, and does not hold, transmit, or move your money.
- Marifmax does not provide financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. Nothing in the Service is a recommendation to buy, sell, save, or spend in any particular way — see Section 6.
- Your bank login credentials are entered directly into Plaid’s interface. Marifmax never sees or stores them.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into a binding contract to use Marifmax. Each account is for one person’s personal, non-commercial use — accounts may not be shared, resold, or used on behalf of anyone else.
4. Your account
Marifmax uses passwordless sign-in: we send a one-time code to the email address you provide. You're responsible for keeping access to that email account secure — anyone who can read your email can sign in to Marifmax. Notify us immediately at support@marifmax.com if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.
5. Subscription, free trial, and billing
- New accounts start with a one-month free trial. You won’t be charged during the trial.
- After the trial ends, the Service costs USD $1.99 per month, billed automatically to the payment method on file until you cancel.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. Marifmax does not store your full card number.
- You can cancel anytime from your account settings. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep access through the end of the period you’ve already paid for. We don’t provide refunds or credits for partial billing periods.
- We may change the subscription price. If we do, we’ll tell you before the change takes effect on your next billing cycle, and you can cancel before it applies.
6. Not financial advice
Marifmax shows you information derived from your own account data — balances, spending categories, progress toward a budget or goal you set. That's it. It is provided for informational and organizational purposes only and is not financial, investment, accounting, tax, or legal advice. Decisions you make about your money based on what you see in Marifmax are your own; consider talking to a qualified, licensed professional before making significant financial decisions.
7. Third-party services
Marifmax relies on other companies to operate, and your use of the Service means you also agree to use these third parties’ services as they apply to your data:
- Plaid Inc. — connects to your financial institutions and provides us with account, balance, and transaction data. See Plaid's own End User Privacy Policy.
- Stripe — processes subscription payments.
- Resend — delivers our transactional emails (sign-in codes, account notifications).
- Amazon Web Services — hosts the Service and stores your data.
See our Privacy Policy for more on how data moves between us and these providers.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for anything unlawful, fraudulent, or that infringes anyone else’s rights.
- Attempt to access another user’s account or data.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, scrape, or probe the Service beyond normal use.
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service’s infrastructure or security.
- Use the Service to connect accounts you’re not legally authorized to access.
9. Intellectual property
The Service, including its design, code, and branding, belongs to Marifmax. We grant you a limited, personal, non-transferable right to use the Service in accordance with these Terms. You retain ownership of the financial data connected to your account.
10. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't guarantee the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the financial data shown will always be accurate or current — it depends on data supplied by Plaid and your financial institutions, which is outside our control.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Marifmax and Hashim Qasim will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, or financial loss arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service — including any decisions you make based on information the Service displays. Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or the Service is limited to the amount you paid Marifmax in the 12 months before the claim arose.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold Marifmax and Hashim Qasim harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third party’s rights.
13. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from Profile settings. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, or if we discontinue the Service. On deletion, we remove your linked bank connections from Plaid and delete your account data as described in our Privacy Policy’s retention section.
14. Marketing and comparative claims
Where we describe Marifmax as low-cost or compare its price to other budgeting apps, those comparisons reflect publicly available pricing at the time they’re published and are subject to change without notice. We keep records supporting comparative pricing claims we make in advertising.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll post the updated Terms here with a new effective date and, where practical, notify you by email. Continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.
16. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Quebec and the federal laws of Canada applicable in Quebec, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Quebec, Canada.
